This course focuses on three elements: content knowledge, inquiry and other teaching strategies, and use of multimedia in teaching and learning. Course goals include:

  • understanding why and how cells divide;
  • exploring how specialized cells develop;
  • clarifying the relationship between DNA, genes, and chromosomes;
  • examining DNA replication and protein synthesis;
  • understanding the causes and effects of genetic mutation;
  • exploring approaches to teaching these topics, including surfacing prior knowledge and use of models.
