This course focuses on three elements: content knowledge, inquiry and other teaching strategies, and use of multimedia in teaching and learning. Course goals include:

  • understanding the distinction between producers and consumers;
  • exploring the role of various structures and how they enable plants and animals to meet their needs;
  • examining the life cycles of a variety of plants and animals;
  • exploring how concept mapping can help assess student understanding; and
  • exploring the role live organisms can play in the elementary classroom.
